Epilogue

The matter of US Investment Bank v. Indonesian Noodle Maker rolled on: the ‘without prejudice’ meeting in London had prejudiced any chances of immediate settlement. There was now much bad blood. The majesty of English law took centre stage.

There were statements of claim by the investment bank. We contemplated a counter-claim, although I wasn’t really sure what we could plead – ‘stupidity’ or ‘mental incompetence’ were the only things available. There were pleadings: we did a lot of that. There were particulars: none were particularly revealing. Witnesses swore affidavits. There was generally a lot of bad language.
