Investment managers need tools that are appropriate to their trade. This chapter summarizes commonly used tools and resources in the investment management profession. Some of the most widely used tools in the profession are licensed, such as those from Bloomberg, S&P CapitalIQ, FactSet, and Thomson Reuters. Recognizing the resource constraints of colleges and universities, the authors also highlight tools that are currently freely available, even if they are not as commonly employed in the most prestigious investment firms.
