What Is an Evaluation?

An evaluation is a way for learners to assess what they learned and, by extension, how they plan to use what they learned. An evaluation is also a way for the trainer to assess the level of learning that has taken place and for the company to assess the benefits of its investment in training.
You are probably already familiar with author Donald Kirkpatrick’s learning evaluation model, in which he identified four levels of evaluation. Very briefly, the four levels are listed below, along with a question specific to each level:
