The concept of telecommuting is receiving a great deal of notice lately. News broadcasts discuss it, commercials for phone and Internet providers extol it, large and small organizations attempt to implement it, and even the vice president of the United States recommends it as a good work alternative that positively affects the environment and the country. Each advocate of telecommuting, however, has his or her own, often disparate, definition of telecommuting. Is it simply working at home? Does it cover consultants? Is it a homebased business process? Does it require ever going to an office?
