Stage 5: Maintenance System

After training, the employee goes back to the job and into a maintenance system that should promote the use of the newly acquired skills. Maintenance of behavior occurs after training, but decisions on what will maintain behavior should be made before training begins. Successful transfer of training requires a concerted effort on the part of both the trainee and the supervisor. A robust maintenance system takes into account motivation, the organization, the work environment, and teamwork.
