Dan Estabrook (b. 1969) has an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1993), where he studied with Bea Nettles. Estabrook has concentrated on working with the earliest paper photographs— calotype negatives and salted-paper prints—as a foundation for his cerebral and visceral methodology involving hand manipulation with paint and pencil that evokes photography’s history of hand retouching.
