Introduction

Enterprise content management (ECM) is a broad category of software applications, whose goal is to gain control over your “unstructured content.” Unstructured content includes any kind of information that does not follow a rigid pattern: e-mails, Web content, research reports, policies and procedures, videos, and other digital assets. This is in contrast to “structured content,” which is generally applied to information stored inside a rigidly defined database table, and accessible through your enterprise applications.
