It's an open secret that a significant portion of digital transformation projects fail to deliver the expected benefits. An article in Harvard Business Review, “Digital Transformation Is Not About Technology,” puts these numbers on the table: “70 percent of all digital transformation initiatives do not reach their goals. Of the $1.3 trillion that was spent on digital transformation in 2018, it was estimated that $900 billion went to waste.”
Digital transformation should be seen as the rational deployment of digital technology across the organization in support of all areas of the business. This assumes that the weaknesses of the current business model versus the digital competition requirements are understood and that the solutions to fix them are defined.
