Chapter 7Taking Initiative

If the previous chapters in this book have accomplished what they have set out to do, then you have learned some things about the transgender community that you did not know before beginning this book. But what good is all that knowledge if you don't put it into practice? People are eager to learn and so they seek out information, but that can't be where the journey ends. We should all aspire to utilize the information we learn in order to create safer spaces for all. So kudos to you for taking the first step in seeking information; now it's time for the next phase. There are things you can do with the information you've gathered that are meaningful and have the potential to affect change.

One of the first things you can do is commit to continue learning about the transgender community. The transgender community is changing with time. A younger demographic of individuals is identifying as transgender, and they have begun to take a deep dive into what it means to be transgender. That said, the information you receive in this book is just the beginning. I say that for two reasons. The information here is just the beginning because a lot more information about the transgender community is readily available. Also, this is only the beginning because the information in this book will likely change with time and advancements in medicine. Stated differently, as science progresses, so will the social implications of that science, and so you must stay abreast ...
