Since the late 1980s, information has influenced travelers’ route choice process; therefore, it became an essential component of traffic analysis and route choice models. Advanced traveler information systems (ATIS) were introduced in the 1990s to expand travelers’ choice sets and let them make more informed route decisions. The dynamic traffic assignment (DTA), which was discussed in Chapter 4, emulates driver’s decision-making processes by enhancing intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technologies. Traveler information can be personalized, such as in-vehicle information systems (IVIS), or non-personalized, which presents generic information to a wide range of road users.
