Chapter 11. Network and Application Services

In the previous few chapters, we looked at individual core network services and ways to resolve their most common problems. While services such as DNS and DHCP are seen as necessities on many large networks, other network services are important to practically all networks. In this chapter, we examine the many network services that can still contribute to a sleepless night but whose problems are not so vast that they need an entire chapter dedicated to them. Services that commonly reside on many networks include

  • Print services

  • Terminal Services

  • Distributed File System (DFS)

  • Remote Installation Services (RIS)

  • NetWare integration
