Modern EA modeling

Since the 1980s, EA modeling techniques, and the tools used to develop them, evolved dramatically. In the mid to late 80s, Computer Aided Systems Engineering (CASE) was predominately used. CASE tools were developed to help architects and business analysts develop models that generate program code. CASE tools were originally based on the application of structured systems analysis coupled with enterprise data modeling techniques.

The concepts of structured analysis and structured programming evolved into object-oriented design (OOD) and object-oriented programming (OOP) in the mid 1990s. These techniques evolved along with the advent of the SmallTalk programming language and with the JAVA programming language.
