On busy Chengfu Road in Beijing’s Haidian District, throngs of people mill about, pursuing their daily lives. The skies are heavy with Beijing’s now-customary gray smog. Bodies jostle with each other, and there are so many people that it’s hard to see the sidewalk. Some listen to iPods, others walk hurriedly, while still others stop to consider a change of direction.
