For some reason, the convention in publishing is to write About the author in the third person. I’ve never understood this. It seems detached to me. I want to talk to you as I do throughout the book — from me to you, in a normal voice as a (fairly) normal person.

So, let me start that again.

Hi. My name’s Mike and I’m the Chairman and Co-founder of a branding company in Perth, Australia called Meerkats. My co-founder Ronnie and I describe our company’s job as liberating the commercial value of authentic human motivation by helping organisations find their True Purpose. Unlike ad agencies, we create way more business solutions than ad campaigns. And for the past 13 years we’ve been doing just that for large corporations, small challenger brands and not-for-profits in almost every category of free enterprise.

As a result, Meerkats has grown too, attracting the biggest brands in our market and building a happy team of smart professionals who, like me, want to change the perception of our industry from wacky cowboys to trusted advisors. We’ve been named Agency of the Year 3 times and have won awards for strategy and effectiveness around the world.
