can’t find the fire? write a letter
If you’re finding it hard to pinpoint the source of your frustration or restlessness with the Protest sign technique, there are two other ways you can bring out the passionate restlessness inside you that could be the untapped fuel for your True Purpose. It’s more of a stream-of-consciousness approach that has you writing a letter. Or two.
‘for too long now …’
This is one of my company’s original exercises and a personal favourite. What you do here is describe in longhand a situation that’s been going on for a while now — in an area of human endeavour that interests you — that you think is not ideal, or is unfair, or morally wrong or just plain stupid.
Describe that situation after the words, ‘For too long now …’ and then describe your solution to this situation after the words, ‘It’s time that …’ The key here is to use your own language, the way you’d describe your feelings to a friend over a coffee. Don’t worry about proper grammar or impressive adjectives — just write from your heart. Let it flow out.
Let me give you an example.
I once did a purpose workshop with a group of indigenous Australians. It was part of a two-week program to give 10 Aboriginal entrepreneurs the necessary commercial skills to start their own businesses.
