Adding Tumblr Share Buttons to a Non-Tumblr Site

Did you know that there are over 13 million Tumblr bloggers with over 48 million Tumblr blogs around the world? It’s true, and these numbers are constantly growing. So if you happen to have another website outside of Tumblr, you might be unintentionally passing up the chance to interact with the Tumblr audience.

One reason the Tumblr community is so strong is that Tumblr posts are so easily shared and reblogged among Tumblr users. So what does that mean for websites that aren’t connected to Tumblr?

Fortunately, the folks at Tumblr have already thought about this for you and have devised a way to help you promote your non-Tumblr website content to everyone on Tumblr. All you need to do to make those pages Tumblr-friendly is to add a few strategically placed custom Tumblr buttons.

It’s pretty easy to grab the button code to add a variety of Tumblr share buttons to your non-Tumblr site. Just follow these steps:

1. Open the Tumblr Button page at www.tumblr.com/docs/en/share_button , as shown in Figure 6-7.

2. Select and copy the line of <script> code in the gray area and paste it into your pages right before the closing </body> tag.
