9: Types of Textual Data

There are two categories of textual data: structured and unstructured. Textual unstructured data bears no resemblance from one record or document of data to the next. A good example of textual unstructured data is email. When a person writes an email, the chances are very good that the email is unique. If an email turns out to be similar to another email, it is purely by happenstance.

The counterpart is textual structured data. Textual structured data is more predictable. In textual structured data, there is a strong resemblance from one document to the next.
