Preface to the second edition

 

 

 

This is an exciting time in the growth of TV scenic design. Although initially television design relied on techniques garnered from theatre and film, people working in the medium rapidly built up their own unique solutions to cope with the pressures and problems of daily schedules.

Recent advances in video camera design, coupled with more flexible video recording and editing systems, are freeing the TV director from constraints that previously restricted production methods. The camera has become more mobile. Pictures are more stable and of consistently high quality. Scenes can be shot, rearranged and manipulated in ways undreamt of a short time ago.
