Electronic reality
Using an ever-increasing number of electronic effects, the set-designer can create a wide range of scenic illusions, that are often quite impracticable to produce by any other means.
A substitute for reality
8.1 Artifice and art
As you know, since the early years, film makers have relied on ingenious photographic trickery to create convincing scenic illusions. Many of the ‘impressive vistas’ we see in motion pictures are really combination shots of artwork and reality. But so persuasive are these techniques, that we accept the results unquestioningly as ‘the real thing’. For us, ‘seeing is believing’!
