Setting up the Consul server

Let's take a look at the steps to set up Consul sever:

  1. Setting up Consul server is pretty straightforward. Just download the executable from https://www.consul.io/downloads.html and unzip it to the location of your choice. After unzipping, hit the following command to make it available to the binary executions:
cp consul /usr/local/bin/
  1. Test your Consul installation by opening up a Terminal and typing consul -v; you should be able to see version 1.0.7.
  2. Now, we will open Consul UI terminal. Consul comes by default with a UI dashboard; to start the Consul terminal with a UI dashboard, hit the following command:
consul agent -server -bootstrap-expect=1 -data-dir=consul-data -ui -bind=<Your_IPV4_Address>
