Load balancers can also be configured to be not only public-facing instances; they can be configured to be private-facing instances as well. This can help in cases when there is a secured network or site-to-site VPN tunnel. This helps to guard our instances against public interfaces and limit them only to a private network. With the help of a private-facing load balancer, we can also configure for internal routing of backend systems without exposing them to the internet.
