 Setting up the Eureka server

The Eureka server is a Netflix OSS product and a service discovery pattern implementation where every microservice is registered and a client looks up on the server to get dependent microservices. A Eureka server runs on the JVM platform, so we will directly use an available template.

To run a Eureka server, you will need Java 8 and Maven set up.

Let's take a look at the steps to set up Eureka server:

  1. Go to the eureka folder inside the extracted source code for this chapter. You will find a ready-to-use Java project for Eureka server named euraka-server.
  2. Inside the root directory, open up the Terminal and run the following command:
mvn clean install
