10 Imaging, Process Control, and Miscellaneous Low-Intensity Applications
10.1 INTRODUCTION
Although nondestructive testing (NDT) provides one of the larger and better known industrial markets for ultrasonic equipment, it is only one of many areas in which low-intensity ultrasonic energy is applied. Several additional areas of applications are discussed in this chapter. The development of numerous industrial sensing or metrology applications of ultrasound has occurred in parallel with the development of medical applications. In many cases, similar or related technology has been used in the underlying research and development activities, particularly in applications that involve optically opaque media.
