A more powerful way to use the entity/relationship approach is to describe the architects view (Row Three). This architectural data model is specifically concerned with identifying the language that describes what is fundamental to the enterprise as a whole. Here, an entity is a fundamental thing of significance to the organization, and an entity class is a collection of such things. A relationship associates a hypothetical instance of an entity class with one or more hypothetical instances of another entity class.
