NIAM was originally an acronym for Nijssens Information Analysis Methodology, but more recently, since Dr. G. M. Nijssen was only one of many people involved in the development of the method, it was generalized to Natural language Information Analysis Method. Indeed, practitioners now also use a still more general name, Object-Role Modeling, or ORM.[87].
