Good question.

Model:

  1. A miniature representation of an object.

  2. A pattern on which something not yet produced will be based.

  3. A design or type.

  4. One serving as an example to be emulated or imitated.

Modeling:

  1. To construct a plan, esp. after a pattern. [WEBS1]
