Light sources and displays
One of the most familiar of light-producing transducers is the filament lamp. Current passing through the filament causes it to glow white-hot. Some of the electrical energy is converted to heat, but much is converted to light. Although electronic circuits may sometimes include filament lamps as indicators, the light source most representative of electronics is the light-emitting diode.

The most typical form of a light-emitting diode, or LED is illustrated above. The case is made from transparent plastic, usually in the same colour as the LED, though clear plastic is used sometimes.
