A Backward Glance
This book finishes with a look backwards, for it is by observing our past that we get some inkling of what to expect in the future. It does not go right back to the days when film was dominant because those times are no longer relevant. Instead, the account that follows is a largely personal perspective on the advance of digital cameras to date and is mostly based on some of the digital compacts that I own. It does not cover the history of digital SLRs because that would fill an entire book if considered in detail; nevertheless, I will attempt to summarize the history of digital SLRs in brief before looking in more detail at compact cameras.
