4.1 The Challenge of Editing

Imagine you are given a box with dozens, hundreds, or possibly thousands of puzzle pieces, knowing, or at least hoping, that they can be made to fit into a picture. Now also imagine that before you put it together, you don't quite know what the picture will actually look like. You might have a good idea, but a lot of details are vague. Then imagine you don't know how many of the puzzle pieces you will need to finish the task. This imaginary challenge is akin to the situation many photographers who need to edit and sequence their photographs for a book feel they are in.
