Signaling and Interworking
SBCs are often the demarcation point between many different real-time multimedia networks. When interconnecting two real-time communication networks, more often than not, there is a significant chance of encountering interoperability issues. For example, the two networks might support different call control protocols, different extensions within the same call control protocol, different media encoding formats, different media format packetization periods, different methods of dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) relay, different media encryption schemes, or different IP addressing versions.
