Culture

In Chapter 2 I described the difference between community and culture at work. While “great culture” has become a beacon for many leaders, I believe it’s a bit of a siren. It promises that employees will want to work for your organization, love being there, and want to stay. However, without a great community, the promise of culture is empty at best. At worst, it is harmful.

In sociology and anthropology, culture is defined as a set of learned behaviors and values, as well as artifacts like art, music, food, tools, and so on.
