82SIMULTANEOUS CONTRAST

A perceptual shift in color that occurs when the color appears to move toward the opposite color of the surround against which it is seen

Color is a perception rather than a fixed property of an object or patch. As such, the color of an object or patch can change depending on the conditions in which it is viewed, leading to various color appearance phenomena. One of the most well-known color appearance effects is simultaneous contrast where two colors placed side by side will contrast with each other by appearing to take on the attributes of the opposing hue.
