Chapter 6 The Semantic Web and Web 2.0
In their introductory paper to Pellegrini and Blumauer’s (2006) book discussing the development of the networked information society and the role semantic technologies can and will play in it, authors Tochtermann and Maurer sketch two scenarios. In these, they highlight the difference between one scenario, the Web as we know it today, and another, the “Semantic” Web of the (near) future. They roughly go like this:
