The Designer’s Goal




As designers in the theatre, our overriding goal is to create the environment for the dramatic action of the play. We should be doing our best to work with the director’s interpretation of the play, to create the most impactful design possible.


Part of theatre’s power comes from its ephemeral, transitory nature. Each production, in order to have maximum effect, must be re-imagined for its era, region and specific audience.
