A bias that occurs when we see someone we feel we have an affinity with (e.g., we support the same teams, we attended the same college, we come from the same place, or they remind us of someone we know and like).
Allies:
People from dominant groups who actively work to tear down oppression.
Apartheid:
A world where you, your spouse, and your kid cannot connect because of the color of your skin.
Attribution bias:
How we explain behavior or the cause and effect of something. It's attaching meaning to something, so attribution bias would be attributing someone's behavior to their intrinsic nature.
Beauty bias:
How we judge people based on their physical appearance, especially when they are considered attractive.
Bias journal:
A journal in which you document biases you have as well as track how you will unpack them.
Cancel culture:
A term used to refer to the phenomenon of “canceling,” or no longer morally, financially, and/or digitally supporting people—usually celebrities—or things that many have deemed unacceptable or problematic.
Colonialism:
Telling people that, based on their language, tribe, or religion, they were unable to connect.
Colonization:
The act or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area. It involves appropriating a place or environment for one's own use.
