Appendix C: Touchstone Stories—A Sample from One Group

What follows are the stories told by most of a single LeaderLab participant group at the end of the second week of the program. Four participants were female and one was African American. Their organizations included a not-for-profit health advocacy group, federal and state government agencies, financial, chemical, manufacturing, and information technology companies. These stories have been transcribed verbatim from audiotape, with permission from the storytellers.

In the second week, touchstone-exercise participants are asked to represent their work group in its shared sense of purpose. Some make reference to the metaphor-survey responses returned by members of their work groups.
