Building Podcast Producer

Once you’ve completed all of the prerequisites, it is time to set up Podcast Producer. To make setting up Podcast Producer as easy as possible, Apple has included it in the Server tool. To install Podcast Producer, open Server (from /Applications) and click on the Podcast entry in the Server sidebar. Here, click the ON button to enable the service.

Once enabled, choose who can view the Podcast library (the site that hosts the podcasts, which we will cover later in this chapter) by choosing Anyone, Authenticated Users, or Podcast Owners from the Settings drop-down menu. Anyone includes users without passwords, whereas Authenticated Users only allows users that have a username and password access to each podcast’s feed. Podcast Owners further restricts access to each podcast to the owner of the podcast by default. We will look at assigning more granular permissions to podcasts later in this chapter, but for now we will assume that all Authenticated Users have access to podcasts, but only users who have passwords to authenticate into our directory service.

Additionally, you will want to see Podcast Producer in Server Admin. To do so, open Server Admin and click on the name of the server. Click on Settings in the Server Admin toolbar and then click on the Services tab. Click on the checkbox for Podcast Producer and then click on the Save button, which places the Podcast Producer service in the Server Admin sidebar under the name of the server, as seen in Figure 7-1 ...
