members of trade associations that publish in a specic area of expertise. Published standards may
range from a few (e.g., Standards Engineering Society) to hundreds in specic disciplines (e.g., the
Aerospace Materials Specications (AMS) from SAE International).
Several federal government agencies publish safety standards. The National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) addresses industrial hazards and the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) continues with more safety standards. Other regulations come
