Journals
Professional societies are usually the publishers of the serials that provide general coverage of the
eld. Unlike the more technical, specialized journals, these publications provide the nonspecialist
with a good understanding of the variety of training needed by civil engineers in order to produce
the many different projects required of them. These publications are usually designated as of-
cial publications of the societies. Examples would be ASCE’s Civil Engineering Magazine, the
Canadian Society for Civil Engineering’s Canadian Civil Engineer, and South African Society of
Civil Engineering’s Civil Engineering.
