1.2.1 Related Work on Shot Boundary Detection
The basic idea for shot boundary detection (shot segmentation) is to define frame
similarity and detect the obviously changed boundary between shots. After that video
structure parsing is conducted by segmenting the whole video into shots. Generally,
there are two kinds of shot transitions: abrupt change and gradual change. Abrupt
change refers to the last frame of one shot being directly linked to the first frame of
another shot without the use of any production effects. Gradual change means that
a shot transits to another shot gradually through some special production effects.
