GUIDING PRINCIPLES:UNITY, CLARITY, AND STYLE

During postproduction the video editor has the ability to create or import graphic elements into the program that help to tell the story. (See Figure 13.1.) These may be as simple as lower-third keyed titles or as complex as animated, composited graphics. In either case, a relatively simple set of principles is central to the creation of effective graphics. Of paramount importance are the principles of unity, clarity, and style.
