With ever-expanding computer applications and their associated demands on computer system administration, the role of virtual machines and virtualization are likewise expanding. Virtualization enables the introduction of new system capabilities without adding complexity to already-existing and already-complex hardware and software. These new capabilities will support innovative computing paradigms and will provide critical functions in areas that have assumed major importance in a world grown increasingly dependent on computers.
