Introduction

Attention and subsequent research on global virtual teams (GVTs) have constantly been growing since the seminal article by Jarvenpaa and Leidner (1999) that defined GVTs as evolutionary forms of network organisations enabled by the advances in information technology and enhanced by globalisation.

A recently published bibliometry has identified two main research areas concerning GVTs: a primary one focused on international business (IB) and a second on information management (Tavoletti and Taras, 2022).
