32-bit or 64-bit Active Directory Domain Controllers?

With Microsoft Windows Server 2003 through Windows Server 2008, you have the option of deploying your Active Directory virtual machines on either the x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) Windows Server platforms. With the introduction of Windows Server 2008 R2, the x86 platforms are no longer available. This shift in platform allows greater scalability of the operating system and the applications running on it.
