The Anatomy of an XML Document

An XML document is a text document. It has readable characters that are arranged in a way that causes the document to conform to the W3C specifications for an XML document. The fact that an XML document is readable to humans as well as computers is important; data that doesn't require a machine to be understood helps to alleviate needless complexity in a system. To better understand the XML functionality inside the System.XML namespace and its children namespaces, this section briefly discusses the various components of XML documents.
