Chapter 3. Creating the Data Entry Layout

As explained in Chapter 2, the initial/default layout can sometimes be used as-is for data entry. But if you want the database to be attractive and pleasant to use, it’s more common to create custom layouts instead. FileMaker simplifies this task by providing the New Layout/Report wizard.

When you use the wizard to create a layout, you specify the manner in which fields are arranged, select only the specific fields you want to include, and apply attractive formatting (called a theme) to the layout. There’s always additional work to do afterward, but the wizard will usually give you a solid start in developing the layout you want.
