10. Working with Transitions

Transitions are effects placed between clips on the Timeline to smooth the flow from clip to clip. Because transitions are so easy to apply, and available in such plentiful supply, they tend to be misused—variety is good, right?
Actually, no. In fact, transitions are best used only when they’re “motivated.” The concept of motivated transitions means to never use one unless it solves a problem, smooths the flow from clip to clip, or sends a necessary message to the viewer that something is changing.
