Chapter 12. Events and Alarms
This chapter discusses events and alarms, which are useful in system management.
Event and EventManager establish the foundation for signaling events of different natures happening in the system and allowing interested parties to handle these events accordingly. With the EventHistoryCollector managed object, you can retrieve the historical events on the given ESX or vCenter server during a certain period.
The alarm system provides a mechanism to monitor the system with predefined conditions and then trigger follow-up actions. You can create and manage alarms to automate the VMware Infrastructure. Alarm and AlarmManager are examined in detail in the second half of this chapter.
