Chapter 20Upgrading from VI3.5 to vSphere 4

This chapter describes how to upgrade to vSphere 4. I left this topic to the very end of the book because I thought that most people would prefer to understand the product before upgrading to it. The most recent release of VI3.5 is Update 4, but VMware will continue to maintain the 3.5 release, so expect new patches and possibly even an Update 5.

Before attempting an upgrade, you need to consider your starting position and where you are trying to get to once the upgrade is completed. It’s possible that a clean install will better suit your needs.
