Storage security within the vSphere™ and virtual infrastructure is of major importance. Lacking good storage security, your virtual machine disk files are available for anyone to access, much like they could if they had access to your data center. For example, anyone could walk in and literally take a disk from a machine and walk out. Granted, within a data center there is a good chance alarms would go off (either physical breach alarms or hardware monitoring alarms). However, within the virtual world there are no such alarms.
